Lionel Messi, Barcelona FC and Argentina soccer player needs no introduction.

The attacker is one celebrity who fans of his can do some crazy things for. The 6 times Ballon d’Or winner and father of 3 is very known for his achievements in football.

Being a star, the footballer has had really crazy moments of how far some fans can go to honor their star.

1. A fan invaded the pitch and bowed to him.

Football fans invading pitches to meet their favorite soccer star is not new. For them, it is an opportunity to get close to their football idol and are usually ready to take the risk to hug or get an autograph not minding the accompanying punishment like bans, fines or jail terms.

For Lionel Messi, he must have lost count of the number of times he has experienced this kind of scenario.

A particular one that stood out was in June 2016 in a semifinal COPA America match against USA.

A fan ran into the pitch and literally bowed at Messi’s feet, worshipping him. After successfully evading security guards in the stadium, he got to the football star, handed a shirt to him for an autograph, dropped down to his knees and hugged him a couple of times.

In what seemed like a well planned stunt, the invader tweeted the whole moment, live, with the help of his friend who recorded. For Micheal Soto, that was an unforgettable moment.

Argentina won the match 4 – 0 with Messi scoring one of the goals.

Another incidence of note was Barcelona’s champions league match with Olympiakos in 2017.

A fan invaded the pitch, brought out his phone and took a selfie with the attacker.

2. Tagged him on social media with provocative pictures and tattooed his face on her groin.

Suzy Cortez also known as Miss BumBum did the unthinkable when she tattooed Messi’s face on her groin.

Having a tattoo of your favourite celebrity is nothing out of the ordinary, but doing so in the groin, close to the ‘private region’ will surely steal the headlines.

She said

“I commented on this for the first time in a television interview during my trip to Mexico when I won Miss BumBum World. It was a promise and I kept it.”

She was blocked by Messi and his wife after she tagged both of them in the picture.

3. Moved his wedding day to Messi’s birthday.

Shibu Cletus and Jeena Sebastian had their engagement on July 15 2018.

After the engagement, Shibu fixed his wedding on Messi’s birthday being June 24.

Before taking the decision, he said he spoke with Jeena about it and she agreed. He was happy she did not complain of waiting a year later, 24 June 2019, for the wedding proper to hold.

To spice up the special day which obviously was a double celebration, he had the wedding venue decorated with pictures of Messi and some other footballers.

The Indian man said

“For me, it is a dream wedding and I thank all my family members and friends who stood with me to conduct my wedding the ‘waka waka’ way.’ “

4. One who killed himself.

A 20-year old Messi die-hard fan, (no pun intended) Monotosh Halder committed suicide in his home in Bengal, India, during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

He was a passionate Messi and Argentina fan so much that he couldn’t stomach Argentina’s 4 – 3 loss to France in the round of 16.

His father was quoted saying

“My son had no illness. He was an Argentina fan and every day he used to remain glued to the TV since the world cup had started. He was distraught after Argentina’s loss to France. But we never thought he would do something like this,”

A similar incident had also been reported earlier in Brazil following Argentina’s 3 – 0 loss to Croatia in a group match.

A 30-year old man’s corpse was retrieved from a river days after he left a suicide note and had been missing.

5. The one who died defending Messi.

In 2016, two Nigerian nationals residing in India had an argument between Messi and Ronaldo on who was the best footballer in the world and one of them got killed.

Chukwuma Nwabu 21, and Obinna Duruchukwu, 34, both friends, didn’t envisage that simply defending your favourite football player could have led to the death of one of them.

While Obinna was a Messi fan, Chukwuma was a Ronaldo fan. The mishap happened after a party.

A police officer said

“They were discussing football players. One is a fan of Messi and the other was for Ronaldo. During the conversation a quarrel had taken place.

The deceased threw a glass into the face of the accused person. The glass broke and caused small injuries. After that the accused took the broken glass and assaulted the deceased person who died due to heavy bleeding.”

Even though the intent was not to inflict grave harm, death was eventually the end result, it is worth mentioning because the root cause was argument about who was better between the best two football players in the last decade.
